Margate Moves: Hop off to the beach this Easter
The Bioplus Beach Festival offers entertainment for the whole family as well as a feast of sporting activities.
Margate beach is definitely the place to be this Easter weekend, April 19 to 22 from 10am to 3pm daily.
The Bioplus Beach Festival offers entertainment for the whole family as well as a feast of sporting activities. These include volleyball, cricket, soccer and touch rugby as well as beach aerobics and fun Zumba classes. There will be lots of giveaways throughout the day.

A special sunrise service will be held at the beach on Easter Sunday (21st) from 6am.
Road closures
Take note that as from next Wednesday (24th) Panorama Parade in Margate will be closed to all vehicles except for event permit holders and motorcycles for the annual South Coast Bike Fest.
And from 8am on Friday (26th) until 5pm on Sunday (28th) the road will be accessible to motorcycles only. Event permit holders will have access available from midnight to 8am and any unauthorised vehicles left unattended within the site venue outside of those hours will be towed at the owner’s risk and cost.
Panorama Parade will adopt a one-way only system (north to south) from April 23 to 29 the road can be exited via Post Office Lane. Also, note that Remington Road will be closed to vehicles wanting to turn left into Panorama Parade. Those vehicles will be diverted via Finnis Road.
The permit system will be in place for the event venue for the following three groups:
Delivery vehicles for vendors trading at the event, local residents and businesses and holiday letting customers.
The permits will be issued by the Margate Business Association.
Delivery vehicles needing vendors’ permits can collect them at the Sasol filling station (crossroads roads north entrance to Marine Drive) from April 23.
On Sunday (28th) the Mass Ride will leave from St Michael’s beachfront at 10am and there will be further road closures along the Marine Drive route for the duration of the ride.
Non-stop action
Three days of non-stop action is promised at this year’s South Coast Bike Fest™ (#SCBF19). The Gearhouse Full Throttle Entertainment Zone will stage some of the most extreme biking stunts by the country’s most daring riders such as Bruce and Brent le Riche, who will be putting on a high-impact, interactive show, Yamaha South Africa’s brand ambassador, Alfred Matamela – aka King Donut – will burn rubber in his signature smoking style performances, Shredbettys, the all-woman crew will showcase their off-road racing skills and will be accompanied by Airworx, a company specialising in virtual reality and EnduroX riders will thrill spectators once again.
Pop-up bars, restaurants and stages will host some of South Africa’s hottest musical acts and top deejays.

Kart Freaks in Margate is the venue for a great Car Boot Market next Saturday (27th) from 8am to 1pm.

The next community eco-conscious pop-up market in Marine Drive Ramsgate takes place on May 4.

Supper theatre
Pack a picnic supper as well as some liquid refreshments and head off to the Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village this Saturday (20th). There’s a great show on offer. `Tie a Knot in It’ is a fun original three-hander featuring the Rat Pack comprising acclaimed Durban showmen Rowan Bartlett, Darren King and Bryan Hiles. Doors open at 6pm and the curtain goes up at 7pm.

If you are a fan of the big band sound then you cannot miss this film. This month’s classic movie at the village is `The Glenn Millar Story’. It will be screened at the Ronnie Baker Hall this Sunday (21st) from 2.30pm. Cost is R5 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits at intermission.
More music
`Shackles and Bones’ has embarked on its Concentration Holiday Tour and will make a stop at Ramsgate’s iconic music venue Rocky Ridge this Saturday (20th). Cost is R40 per person and the band will entertain from 8pm – take note venue is open from 6pm.
Not-to-be-missed
`Remember When’ is the title of a delightful sing-along show which will be staged at Margate Bowling Club on May 2 at 6.30pm. Directed by the talented Yvonne Bausek the show is a fund-raiser for South Coast Hospice. Tickets cost R40 per person and wors rolls will be on sale at R20 each. Take note booking is essential. Phone `BT’ King at hospice 082 7280233. The show is always a highlight of the annual Margate Week Bowling Tournament which rolls out from April 29.
`Eggciting’
The Hibiscus Rotary Club (Margate and Uvongo) invite all little people to an `eggcellent time’ at the annual Easter Egg Hunt. The venue is at the weekly flea-market opposite Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds on Easter Saturday (20th) from 10.30am to 11.30am. For more information phone Andre at 083 4598982.

This week the red carpet is rolled out for sisters Angie MacRitchie and Bianca Baldi who are visiting their parents Verona and Luciano Baldi. Angie lives in Scotland while Bianca is currently based in Belgium. They are wished a wonderful time.
