12 things you may not have known happened at Easter

Some extraordinary things happened.

1. Jesus expressly declared that He was the Christ, the Son of God.

2. Barabbas, a murderer, was released instead of Jesus, as per the request of the Jewish people according to their custom.

3. Pilate and Herod both found Jesus not deserving of death. Ironically they became friends after this.

4. Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry the cross of Jesus.

5. The place of crucifixion was called The Skull. (Golgotha in Hebrew, Calvary in Latin)

6. Jesus was crucified at about 9am. At noon time, there was darkness over all the land until about 3pm.

7. Jesus prayed, ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do.’

8. The curtain of the sanctuary of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

9. When the centurion who stood facing Him saw Him expire (in the way that He did), he said, ‘Really, this man was God’s Son!’

10. The earth shook and the rocks were split.

11. The tombs were opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep in death were raised to life; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

12. The chief priests and Pharisees asked Pilate for a guard of soldiers to make the tomb secure and remain watch.
