Hibberdene Happenings: Bikers set to roar through town

With the South Coast Bike Fest due to take place in Margate from today (Friday) to Sunday, expect to hear the roar of motorcycles reverberating through Hibberdene soon.

Despite the inclement weather over most of the weekend, visitors to town appear to have been out and about, at least on the first three days of the weekend.

The shops were as busy as they normally are over the holidays and local watering holes appear to have been well populated.

A number of local and visiting musicians strutted their stuff at the Blue Waters Pub and Grill at various times over the holiday and the Thursday raffle was won by Steve Coulson who found himself a bottle of sparkling wine richer for his efforts. This raffle needs all the support it can get as all the profits go to a very worthy cause – South Coast Hospice.

Bikers welcomed

With the South Coast Bike Fest due to take place in Margate from today (Friday) to Sunday, expect to hear the roar of motorcycles reverberating through Hibberdene soon. Several bikes have already made their way through town, adding to the excitement of the event.

Crowds are expected to converge on Margate to make the most of the entertainment laid on and there will be food stalls, vendors’ exhibitions and something for all and sundry during the three days.

Entertainment will be at a premium with various well-known artists performing at various locations – in short, everything needed for a fantastic weekend.

Please take note of the advertised road closures which will be in operation, before, during and after the event and make sure you adhere to them.

Grief counselling

The Methodist Church is contemplating holding another of its GriefShare courses. Should you be interested in attending please contact Debbie at the church at 039 6992948, Tuesday to Friday mornings.

It is envisaged that it will be a three-month course, starting in mid-May with meetings held once a week.

Previous courses have had excellent results so it would be well worth attending should you feel the need for comfort during this sad period.

Treasure trove

Lenie and Elmari van Rooy and Yvonne van Zyl have relocated to the Manaba/Margate area and are wished well in their new home. The Lions’ Club certainly benefited from their move as their coffers have been boosted with tremendous donations of excellent secondhand books, clothing and toys, all of which will go on sale at the annual Spring Fair, scheduled this year for early September.

Sealers needed

Please continue donating bread sealers for the ongoing recycling projects. Any amount is gratefully received, no matter how small and donations may be left at the clinic on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning between 8am and 11am.

Toast of the town

Birthday wishes for this week go to Justine Gunther (24th), Ria France (25th), Sue Branford (26th), Sharon Evans (27th), Helene Oosthuizen and Peter Janssen (29th), Mariet Potgieter, Jean Perks, Marie Semmelink and Michael Walbrugh (30th) and Marie Coetzer (May 1st).
