#IMadeMyMark: ‘We are ready’, says IEC
Special voting is applicable only to those who applied in advance.
As the May 8 elections draw nearer, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued a call to all registered voters to head to the polls and cast their ballot.
Speaking at the launch of the Results Operation Centre in Pretoria on Tuesday this week, IEC chairman Glen Mashinini said the centre would be ‘a home’ to all 48 political parties.
Election results are expected to be announced on Saturday, May 11.
The Lower South Coast Region IEC spokesman Siphiwe Yeni said the Ugu District was ready, starting with the casting of special votes on May 6 and May 7 from 9am to 5pm.
Special voting is applicable only to those who applied in advance.
Mr Yeni said some voting stations in the Umdoni, Ray Nkonyeni, Umzumbe and Umuziwabantu municipal areas had been affected by the recent floods but added that he was confident the relevant authorities would ensure these were fully operational come election day.

“In terms of IEC logistics,we are ready to roll, our staff are trained and all preparations are done.”
May 8 has been declared a public holiday, and voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm.
Only registered voters will be allowed to cast their ballots, and all voters will need to produce their South African ID document or Smartcard.
Mr Yeni added that police and law enforcement officers would be deployed to all voting stations to ensure the process runs smoothly.
There is still time to check if you are on the voters’ roll by calling 0800 11000, smsing your ID number to 43810 or visiting the IEC website, www.iec.org.za
