Dr Glass said 80 percent of chronic diseases affecting the population are related to their lifestyle choices. “Never before has there been such sophisticated health care, from modern facilities to an array of medicines and surgical interventions, but widespread ill-health continues to be a major problem,” he noted.

“We cannot escape death and we will all die one day, but it is sad when we say goodbye to someone who is still relatively young, and still has so much to contribute to their family and society, and when people suffer limitations in their vitality and enjoyment of life through preventable conditions,”Dr Glass said.

He said the expo was to inform people on lifestyle choices. “We know that most chronic diseases can be prevented by eating well, being physically active, avoiding tobacco, excessive drinking and by regular health screenings. The the most important preventative strategy is education.”
