Car guards praised for safe return of Jessie

The couple found Jessie traumatised and believe if it wasn't for the actions of the car guards she would have starved to death.

Two car guards have been hailed as ‘super heros’ by Hibberdene couple Margo Kornblum and Mark Abramowitz after they found Jessie, their missing English bulldog.

Jessie escaped last Tuesday morning when the couple opened their automated gate to let their handyman in for work.

They only got to know about Jessie’s escape when a good samaritan advertised on social media that a brown English Bulldog, who looked as if she had recently given birth, was seen running around at the top of Catalina Road.

“We immediately looked for Jessie and discovered she was missing, and so began the frantic search for her,” said Margo.

“We scoured the area for five hours but had no luck finding her. By Tuesday afternoon we put up pamphlets, offering a substantial reward for her safe return. We also contacted all the animal rescue organisations, including the SPCA but it was to no avail,” she said.

The following day, they received a call from Christopher Qwabe, a car guard who said he had spotted Jessie and that they should come quickly.

Jessie the bulldog has been found.

The couple raced to meet him and he took them up towards a densely overgrown area where they met Christopher’s friend, Harrison Mbucheso who had stayed in the bush near to Jessie to wait for us.

Margo said Jessie was totally traumatised and only after she climbed through the thick undergrowth and attached a lead to her did she manage to get her to leave the nest in the bush.

In hindsight, the couple thinks Jessie had gone to look for her puppies, as her litter had gone to new homes last week.

“If it wasn’t for Christopher and Harrison going to all the trouble of finding our contact number and staying with her until we arrived she would have died of starvation.

“We would love to assist Christopher and Harrison to secure permanent employment. Although we rewarded them handsomely, they need full-time work. Their actions were totally honourable and we appeal to readers to try and assist them with employment as unfortunately, we are pensioners and not in a position to do so,” said Mark.
