Oppi Kus Musiekfees is the ‘new kid’ on the block, a family event organised by Margate Round Table 46, and takes place at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground this Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29 from 4pm to 2am.
Tabler Jason Howard-Tripp said bringing a music festival of this scale to the coast was a first for Margate Round Table.
“It’s going to be one of the biggest events of 2019. Margate Round Table has secured R500 000 to run the two-day event, which will have positive spin-offs for the community.”
Proceeds from the festival will be channeled into the various community projects for which Margate Round Table is well-known.
“Margate Round Table is a non-political, non-denominational association of young men who enthusiastically organise and take part in events such as the Winter Knights campaign which collects blankets for the less fortunate; the Uvongo parkrun at St Mike’s every Saturday and the Easter egg project which raises money for uplifting schoolchildren.”
Some of the weekend’s hot acts include Die Heuwels Fantasties, Steve Hofmeyr, Four5Seconds, Appel, Wynand and Cheree, Elandre, PJ Cruze and Dewald Dippenaar.
There will be a wide variety of food on sale, a cash bar and hot beverage stalls.
Blankets for the Winter Knights campaign will also be on sale.
A fantastic secure ‘kids’ zone’, run by pre-school teachers, will be set up so parents can leave their children in a safe environment while they enjoy the line-up of some of the country’s top musicians.
Tickets are R150 for adults, and R100 for children aged from three to 13 years. Entrance to the ‘kids’ zone’ is R20 per child.
There will also be tables and chairs, and paid parking available.
Tickets will be on sale at the gate on both nights.
If you prefer your music a little more ‘bluesy’ , don’t worry.
The stage is set for the annual Ugu Jazz Festival which takes place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre this Saturday, June 29. Gates will open from 10am, and the event runs from midday till 4am.
Confirmed for this unmissable event are Grammy Award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai, Sjava, Thandiswa, Judith Sephuma, Mafikizolo, Lady Zamar, Berita, Port Shepstone-born songstress Naima Kay, Mbuso Khoza, Brenda Mtambo, DJ Siyanda and many more.

Organisers, Eyadini Events have prepared for every eventuality.
Event organiser, Mjey Zama, says that as the weather can be unpredictable, a giant marquee will be erected to ensure jazz-lovers don’t miss a note of the top-class music.
“We want festival goers not to worry about rain or cold. The air-conditioned marquee is big enough to cover the whole stadium,” he said.
Ticket holders are reminded that as shelter and braai facilities have been provided, personal gazebos, umbrellas and braai stands will not be permitted.
“You may however bring along camp chairs and cooler boxes, but glasses will not be allowed.”
Tickets can be purchased at Computickets or Shoprite/Checkers.
