Hibberdene Happenings: Restored power relieves frustration

The cut caused much inconvenience, with the dental and eye clinics having to be moved to a later date.

AFTER being cut off for several days recently, power has been restored to all beach and municipal buildings, much to the delight of everyone concerned. The cut caused much inconvenience, with the dental and eye clinics having to be moved to a later date. Stallholders who were trying to use the beach kiosk had a torrid time as well and all were relieved when things were back to normal.

Eroding roads

Your scribe has noticed absolutely no improvement in the condition of either the Leisuredene or Miami Roads, and one wonders whether decent repairs will ever be effected on these two roads. Some problem areas are showing a definite improvement after the floods, but others not.

Fun fete

Pop in at the fete at the Angling Club’s premises this Saturday morning (29th) from about 9am. Organised by the AGS Church, the fete will have a tempting array of food and snacks, as well as the usual flea market goodies. Those who sampled the group’s weekend will be first in line to queue for the delicious food. If you wish to hire a table at R50, please contact Melanie Husselman at 073 4687906.

Bargains galore

Also on Saturday, a mammoth jumble sale will take place in the grounds of the Methodist Church, to raise funds for the church. Starting at 8am and running through to 12pm, there will be something for everybody and bargain-hunters are most welcome.

Pre-loved books and kitchenware, bric-a-brac, second-hand clothes, with the emphasis on winter warmth, will all be on offer.

It is hoped that both these fund-raisers are well supported by the public.

Walk next week

Grannies and grandpas are champing at the bit in their haste to get off to a good start at the annual Grandparents’ Walk in Uvongo next Wednesday, July 3. Everyone is hoping for a day of great entertainment and fun.

Annual attraction

Do your best to attend the annual Scottburgh Classic Car Show at Scottburgh High on Sunday, July 7. Get there early – gates open at 9am for visitors, but there is always a huge crowd. Food will be on offer throughout the day and the beer tent will no doubt provide an excellent service. Secure parking will be available at the primary school, parking for the disabled will be on the show field and entrance fees are R40 for adults and R20 for pensioners and children over 12.

Get well soon

Louis Nortjé is receiving a lot of tender loving care and is wished well while he nurses a cut finger as a result of an encounter with a saw.
