Sardines give South Coast a skip, pop in at Toti

There's never a dull moment when these fish are around.

Sardines were netted at Amanzimtoti, just south of Durban earlier today.

For now they seem to have given the sunny South Coast a skip.

Perhaps, though, there are the shoal leaders and more could be on the way.

Whatever the case, locals and holidaymakers in the area took the chance to wade into the water in the hopes of grabbing a fish or two.

According to one WhatsApp fishing group, two nets were brought in at one stage – one full or sardines and the other with exactly one sardine!

Another message suggested crates were selling for R1500.

How true this is could not be confirmed and while it seems unlikely, it does go to show how they are valued as a source of bait.

There’s never a dull moment when these fish drop in.

All we can hope is more will come. Could make for a ‘Super Sardine Sunday’.
