“The thrill that I feel when I am on stage is an inexplicable feeling. Entering Miss Johannesburg gave me the platform to make my voice heard and I was then able to create awareness about the issues we face in our society,” she explained.
Miss Rajoo added that the Miss Johannesburg pageant is philanthropic in nature and hosted by the Role Models Foundation, a non-profit organisation that hosts various philanthropic pageants around South Africa with the aim of bettering the society we live in.
“We spent months preparing for our main gala evening by approaching business houses to sponsor our various charity projects as well as a fundraising drive to collect food, clothes, stationery and toys to donate to these charities.”
Miss Rajoo said she had the support of everyone in her family, who were all present on pageant day.
“Anyone that takes part in a beauty pageant knows how important crowd support is for your stage performance,” she noted.
There were two segments, one being themed costumes where participants had to represent a country and the other being evening wear. “For the first segment, I chose to represent my motherland, India as it represents who I am as a person, colourful, vibrant and spicy. The competition was tough and I am going to use my title to help others. I believe that I can be the change we need in the world and I am excited to start assisting my charity projects,” she said.
