Shelter assisted by animal angels on Mandela Day

Michael Muller said the shelter has been struggling to make ends meet since he had to step into Terence Olivier’s larger than life boots.

Staff from Absolute Pets dedicated their 67 minutes for Mandela Day to Rainbow Warriors South Africa animal shelter in Hibberdene.

The team spruced up signboards, walked the dogs and spent time with the animals at the shelter for most of the day on Thursday.

Michael Muller said the shelter has been struggling to make ends meet since he had to step into Terence Olivier’s larger than life boots. he said this past week has been extremely strenuous as the organisation would have run out of cat food if it wasn’t for the generous donation from the Shelly Beach Lions Club.

In May this year, Mr Olivier, the founder and owner of Rainbow Warriors SA died.

Mr Muller and his staff are currently caring for 90 rescue cats and 21 dogs.

He said the dogs up for adoption are ‘special needs’ pets looking for forever homes.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us in our endeavours,” added Mr Muller.

The community is urged to support the charity shop and ‘Barking Barber’ grooming parlour which has recently opened at the Southport Garden Centre.

Donations are most welcome. Contact Mr Muller at 082 5933384.
