Port Shepstone High School has had the rewarding experience of being involved with Grant Blakeway’s ‘Melokuhle Project’.
Grant is an inspirational character who, at 58 years old, will be rowing 4 800km solo across the Atlantic Ocean to raise awareness on the dire state our oceans are in from plastic pollution.

The prize-giving for the raffle tickets and the most oar-strokes sold was a festive event that offered some incredible prizes.
Paige Preston walked away with the first prize – an iPhone XS Max valued at an incredible R26 000.
The school recently entered the 2019 Eskom Science Expo held in Umzinto. Nkosingiphile Zulu received a bronze medal for her project entitled ‘Turning milk into casein plastic’.
Myende Okuhle scooped silver for her proposal ‘Ocean acidification’, Sibusisiwe Khathi took gold for her ‘Plastics suffocating the oceans’, and was also selected to be one of the top 17 entrants who will take part in the National Science Expo in Johannesburg.
Sivikelwe Nxumalo received a special award for her project titled ‘Why nuclear powered electricity can benefit South Africa’.
