Popular Margate musician mourned

Khulekani 'KG' Miya died after being hit by a car in Shelly Beach.

Popular musician from Margate, Khulekani ‘KG’ Miya, died in Shelly Beach on August 16 after being hit by a vehicle.

It is believed that he was walking on Marine Drive at the time of the incident.

According to Ugu District Saps Communications, Miya was a victim of culpable homicide. “He was pronounced dead by paramedics on scene. No arrests have been made. The docket will be forwarded to the Senior Public Prosecutor for a decision.”

His uncle, Skhulu Miya, said KG left too suddenly and too early.

“What is more painful is that on the day of his death, we were supposed to go to a funeral in the Eastern Cape to bury my big brother.”

Khulekani ‘KG’ Miya died after he was hit by a car in Shelly Beach on Sunday.

Miya described KG as a problem-solver and said he loved his family. “He was a loving, kind person and always had a way of talking to people. He would try by all means to make sure that the family got along.”

The Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) paid their respects to the Miya family on Tuesday this week (August 18).

CCIFSA chairperson in KZN, Howard Msomi, said that a hero in the industry has been lost.

“He was a talented person and loved music dearly.”

According to Msomi, KG, who was a guitarist and pianist, collaborated with many musicians and artists.

“We saw it as important to visit the family because some families do not allow artists to express themselves during the funeral.”

He added that when families allow their children to join the music industry, they must understand that fellow musicians become part of their lives.

“We are helping the family with funeral arrangements and a memorial service, which will allow us to celebrate his life and his talent.”
