Crime sweep cleans up in Izingolweni

The street value of dagga confiscated on the day was in the region of R8000.

In a successful joint operation, law enforcement officials confiscated a substantial amount of alcohol and dagga last Thursday.

A total of 98 members from stations within the Ugu Cluster as well as K9 Unit and other law enforcement agencies, under the direction of station commander Brigadier Sandra Nala of Saps Port Shepstone, took part in operation Basadi which kicked of in Izingolweni.

Alcohol was confiscated from two containers at a shopping centre of which one was used as a fast food outlet, along with a bucket full of loose dagga.

Two men aged 21 and 23, were arrested and charged for dealing in dagga and liquor without a licence.

A liquor outlet in Mbangweni area was closed down, and 32 crates of alcohol were seized.

A man (34) was charged for dealing in liquor without a licence, and a 61-year-old man was also arrested in Dlovinga area and charged for dealing in dagga after he was found with a plastic bag full of dagga with an estimated street value of R3000.

The total street value of dagga confiscated on the day amounted to R8000.

Fines were issued to dealers as well to those who had contravened the Liquor Act.
