He reportedly strangled her, demanded cash, and raped her repeatedly before fleeing.
Now the women of the rural village of Mncadodo in KwaNzimakwe, fear for their safety.
According to the woman’s neighbour, the pensioner is traumatised, flinching at the slightest sound.
“So much pain for an elderly woman. We have lost the spirit of Ubuntu and I sit here everyday and wonder if I am not next.”
Police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane said police were investigating and no arrest had been made.
Traditional healer arrested
In a separate incident, 32-year old traditional healer based in Durban was recently arrested on two counts of rape after two women, one from Ixopo and one from Port Shepstone, laid complaints.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker, the woman from Ixopo claimed that she met the traditional healer in a taxi en route to Port Shepstone.
It is believed he had approached her saying her family was under a dark cloud which needed cleansing.
The woman agreed to the cleansing and the traditional healer arranged to visit her Ixopo home, where a ceremony was duly performed.
A second woman (27) told a similar story, saying the traditional healer had gone to her Port Shepstone home, also to perform a cleansing ceremony.
He had then told both families the women needed to accompany him to the sea for another ceremony.
“A ceremony was performed and the women then went with man to his home, where they say they were given a traditional concoction to drink.
“One of the women claimed that she felt dizzy and passed out after drinking the concoction. When she awoke, she realised she had been raped,” said Brig Naicker.
“The second woman said she was raped repeatedly until she manage to escape from the house.”
Detectives from Pinetown FCS lured the man from Empangeni back to Durban where he was arrested.
He will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday, October 18.
