Hospice offers free palliative nursing care to people with life-threatening illnesses, as well as support to their families.

Programme director and radio announcer, Pena Govender, asked Stephen how he coped with his diagnosis, taking into consideration that he is a father and the family’s breadwinner.

Stephen replied that he had received great support from church friends, colleagues and family.

Most of his family live in Johannesburg and although it wasn’t always possible for them to be with him, he said even just a simple phone call was always appreciated.

Stephen’s wife, Sarie, was also diagnosed with cancer six months ago and is undergoing treatment at the moment.

They reminded people that cancer was not the end of the road, and that Khanya Hospice could help care for cancer patients.

Neil and Stephen placed particular emphasis on men being screened for prostate and testicular cancer, as early detection was very important.
