‘Heart breaking’ decision for pastor…but there’s a silver lining

Pastor Dees Govender has closed the doors to the church he started in Marburg in 1999.

Pastor Dees Govender has made what he described as a ‘heart breaking decision’ to close the doors of Holy Ghost Tabernacle, the church he started in Marburg in 1999.

“This was a church that I lived for. I started it in February 1999 while I was still a teacher at RA Engar Primary School, not because I wanted to but because I had a divine calling from the Lord,” he said.

There came a time when he realised that he needed to choose between his work as a teacher and his spiritual calling.

“I chose to quit teaching and the salary that went with it as the head of department and to serve God,” he said.

He said his pastoral journey had been an amazing experience so far, where the Lord has revealed Himself as the God of the impossible and the divine healer, something he wants people to know about.

“With the current lockdown and limiting the number of congregants to less than 50, I had no right to choose who was to attend church and who should stay at home, thus I chose to close the church,” he explained.

“I send messages to each family for the Sabbath day outlining the entire service, including scriptures and a summary of the message, ending with the benediction. Each family can now have a virtual home church service.”

However, this has now meant that Pastor Govender has time and opportunity to write a book. I want to do it to give God glory for the many miracles that He has performed.

In this book, I want to include the testimonies of the many people who received miraculous healing and deliverance.

“Therefore, I would be grateful for those to contact me to be part of this book,” he said.

He can be contacted at 083 4096194.

He will also still serve the community as a marriage officer, marriage counsellor, youth counsellor and commissioner of oaths.
