Sheppie High mourns teacher Barney Janse van Rensburg

He taught Maths, Technology and EGD (Engineering and Graphic Design) with passion and dedicated vigour.

Port Shepstone High School is deeply saddened to share the news of the death of much beloved teacher Barney (Barend) Janse van Rensburg.

Barney began his teaching career at Ferrum High School in Newcastle in 1981, then moved to Hoërskool Suid Natal at the beginning of 1985 where he was a much loved member of staff until 1999.

Port Shepstone High School was fortunate to have Barney join at the beginning of 2000, where he has been an invaluable and integral part of the Sheppie High family.

Barney was one of the finest teachers this institution has had the privilege of developing and he taught Maths, Technology and EGD (Engineering and Graphic Design) with passion and dedicated vigour.

He inspired generations of learners and spent many hours giving extra lessons and was never too busy to offer advice and encouragement.

As one learner has expressed, “we take a knee for a fallen soldier, for a man who used the classroom as a battlefield to equip, educate and prepare future generations.

His death has left a void for us all, especially the members of staff, and those he taught and mentored.

How lucky we are that saying goodbye is so hard.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, especially his son Dian and wife Penny during this exceptionally difficult time.
