The first day of big school was a little different for this year’s Grade 1 pupils as they had to attend school during a pandemic and strictly adhere to Covid-19 protocol.
Instead of posing for photographs as tradition in their new uniforms, bright-eyed with big smiles or holding back tears, pupils donned masks and face shields.
Umkomaas Primary School shared some insight into its Grade 1’s first day of school, saying that most pupils were rather enthusiastic to begin the new school year, despite the ‘new normal’.
