Walker and Harris annihilate field

There was a better field on Saturday for the betterball Stableford and for some playing their matchplay knockouts.

After all the excitement of last weekend’s club championships at Scottburgh Golf Club, it was back to the bread and butter as a smallish field turned up for an individual Stableford on Wednesday.

It was a case of the Tuesday rain continuing into the next day along with the cold wind from the north which put a few off, Flyer included.

If it’s not Artha it’s Martha and if it’s not Dick it’s Liddie, it has to be Hans and Tony as Beuthe beat Power with 35 to 34 points.

Graham Brown, Jason Gilliver and Mike Hogan recorded 2-clubs and a new name for the upkeep of the Stone appeared as Mikhail van Brakel was welcomed to the Stonies club.

There was a better field on Saturday for the betterball Stableford and for some playing their matchplay knockouts.

Darren Walker and Dylan Harris teamed up and annihilated the field with 45 points.

Visitors Terry and Phil Bachus were second, winning the count out on 40 points over Willy Creaney and Graham Brown, Willy scoring his first ever 2 club at Scottburgh, nice chip Willy.

Darren managed two 2-clubs with dad Ian also managing one.

Another highlight was the two Petes (Gilliver and Morris) managing to overcome their wives by beating them 38 to 34, one up for the boys.

The Stone is being hotly contested of late with Deane Jooste this week giving someone else a chance and Colin Moodie with Mike Hogan had their turn on Saturday.

With the matchplay in full swing the finalists have four weeks in which to complete the tournament.

Flyer’s footnote: No matter how badly you are playing, it’s always possible to play even worse.
