Big Fish sets sights on San Lameer Open

Defending champion is Sean Baker, who is based in George but also holds a membership at Margate Country Club.

The San Lameer Open will be held at the famous estate course on Sunday, January 16.

As in 2021, it will be held in conjunction with the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Closed, over 36 holes.

Defending champion is Sean Baker, who is based in George but also holds a membership at Margate Country Club.

He is expected to play and hopes to shock good friend and multiple past champion Gavin Sole, again.

However, unless Baker has been practising hard over the festive season, that may be unlikely as the Big Fish has run into some very impressive form of late, with a bunch of scores in the 60s.

He attributes it to watching visiting tour player James Kingston’s swing at Southbroom recently.

“His rhythm was just so good, I have tried to copy that and it seems to be working,” he said.

Cost to enter the San Lameer Open is R300 per person and carts are R350 for the day. To book, phone the pro shop on 039 3135141.
