May was wetter than usual
On Saturday May 21, this scribe recorded 100mm of rain by mid-afternoon and a further 42mm by nightfall.
Generally May is a dry month on the South Coast, but the trend nevertheless is occasionally broken.
May last month started out very dry until the mid month floods (again!).
On Saturday May 21, this scribe recorded 100mm of rain by mid-afternoon and a further 42mm by nightfall. Overnight 80mm fell.
In total, the rain for that Saturday was a staggering 222mm. On the Sunday morning (22nd) 14mm of rain fell. Fortunately no flood damage was reported in Scottburgh for that weekend, unlike in Umdloti.
In sum, the rainfall for Scottburgh in May was as follows: 21st – 222mm; 22nd – 14mm. No further rain fell for the rest of the month. Total for May: 236mm.
Rainfall for May over the last five years was: 2021 – 17,5mm; 2020 – 4mm; 2019 – 6,5mm; 2018 – 41mm; 2017 – 264mm (when 261mm fell over four consecutive days).
