Join snare patrol group and make a difference
Call forresidents to help with snare sweep in Umtentweni this Sunday (July 17).
The South Coast Anti-Snaring group will be hunting for snares in Umtentweni this Sunday (17th) at 10:00.
This comes after another dog was rescued from a search operation on Monday night this week.
“A local farmer contacted us after he suspected that there might be a dog caught in a snare. On entering the bush we picked up three snares. It wasn’t even 20 minutes later we found another snare, and a few metres after this, one of our members spotted the dog caught,” said Craig Saunders, founder of the group.
They will be covering the same farm again on Sunday, but this time, with more eyes, hopefully.
Saunders said they will be covering bushy sections on a farm in the Umtentweni area, and everyone is welcome to join.
“This area has been a big problem over the last year. A total of 135 snares were removed last year,” explained Craig.
What to bring? A backpack with snacks and refreshments, knife, side cutters or pliers.
Wear long pants and boots, as there are generally thorns.
First aid bag will be on hand.
Everyone is welcome to join a braai after the patrol at the Umtentweni Whale Deck.
