Culprits nabbed for tampering with water valves

The men were charged for malicious damage of property.

With ongoing water problems affecting the South Coast, Lazer 911 Security apprehended two men who had cut a water valve near Batstone Bridge, Lower Albersville last Tuesday.

The security company’s control centre received a call at about 16:20, from a passing motorist who had noticed suspects tampering with the water meter valves at Batstone Bridge.

Armed response units were dispatched and on arrival met the motorist at the bridge. The suspects were apprehended, and on closer inspection the officers found that they had cut the water valves.

They were handed over to police. Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said two men, aged 23 and 24 appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday. They are facing charges of malicious damage to property. The case continues.
