Milestone birthday for long-time South Coaster ‘Ning’

Noreen Richardson turned 90.

Noreen Richardson, affectionately known as ‘Ning’ to her family, who currently lives in Mbango Retirement Village has recently turned 90 years young.

She has lived the majority of her life on the South Coast from 1963 to present in Margate and Uvongo.

Noreen and her husband Jimmy owned an engineering company and the putt-putt course in Manaba back in 1970.

They had three children, Beryl, Kenny and Moira.

Noreen Richardson celebrates her 90th birthday with son Kenny Matthews of Ballito and daughter Moira Hall of Gabarone, Botswana.

Noreen and her sister Laura owned a hairdressing salon in the ’60s called ‘My Ladies’ under the Regent Hotel in Margate.

Hence, she has been living in the Margate area for a staggering 59 years.

Although she turned 90 on May 31, the family held a celebration for her and all her Mbango friends on July 2 to allow her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to attend during their school holidays.

She has a very big and supportive family, who shower her with love and attention and who have ensured she is adequately cared for during her golden years.

‘Ning’ has also been blessed with good health, with minimum ailments and no serious health conditions to hamper her quality of life.

She is an avid cricket, rugby and tennis fan and her neighbours often hear her rooting for her team whilst watching sport on TV.

However, over the last few years, with old age catching up she often tells family that ‘getting old is not for sissies’.
