New emergency contact number for Southport Saps
Loadshedding has affected the local Farmers' Watch that has a radio system that is connected to the station.
With the ongoing power cuts, many community service institutions are having problems with telephone lines, especially those without generators.
Recently it was reported that the Southport police station is one such institution in the district with no generator, and its services are interrupted during loadshedding.
The telephone lines get disconnected and the police are unreachable which has left many community members in danger.
This has indirectly affected the local Farmers’ Watch that has a radio system that is connected to the station.
The farmers said this poses a great danger to them as farm killings has been prominent in the province and in the country.
Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said residents and farmers in this area can contact the station commander, Captain Sunil Singh on 082 4178013 in a case of an emergency during loadshedding.
