Stylish GWM Tank turns heads

It boasts a powerful engine with advanced off-road tech and is built to handle both on-road and off-road challenges.

The GWM Tank 300 is a rugged adventure-focused SUV in different powertrain options including a 2.0L turbo petrol, a 2.4L turbo diesel and a hybrid system.

I cruised along in the 2.4L turbo diesel which boasts a sophisticated interior with advanced tech features, a 360-degree camera system, alongside strong off-road capabilities.

While GWM as a brand is well-established, the Tank sub-brand is still relatively new, and its rugged aesthetic stands out from the more common SUVs on the road. While motoring along the South Coast, I noticed that the Tank commands attention.

Unlike many crossovers and family SUVs that I have driven recently which share a similar look, the Tank’s bold, boxy and retro-inspired design turns heads. Yes, even the noisy Hadeda (Ibis) turned its head and nodded three times at the Tank and uttered its loud calls. My apologies if I alarmed you Hadeda.

GWM has positioned the Tank to compete with premium off-roaders and it certainly has with its unique value proposition which adds to its exclusivity. The 2.4L turbo diesel produces 135kW and 480Nm of torque, ideal for endurance and higher towing capacity.

Inside, there’s full-grain Nappa leather seats, heated and cooled with massage function in the front, an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a heated steering wheel.

Also, a new trend is the ambient lighting which sets the tone for every journey, while dual-zone air conditioning guarantees a climate-controlled environment. Attention to detail is evident throughout, with engine insulation also featuring multilayer soundproof cotton and three layers of rubber sealing strips on the doors, further minimising cabin noise.

The Tank has a powerful engine with advanced off-road tech and is built to handle both on-road and off-road challenges. I also found it to be fuel efficient and a pleasure to drive.

I certainly enjoyed driving this vehicle and look forward to more GWM brands to test drive.

The colour ambient lighting sets the tone for every journey.
