Police warn of counterfeit notes circulated on South Coast

The public is alerted to be aware of what money they receive.

Police warn the public and businesses that counterfeit money is currently being exchanged for smaller notes on the South Coast.

According to Port Shepstone Saps communications officer, Captain Petros Mpinge, congregants from a church in Port Shepstone were conned into exchanging several R200 notes for smaller ones last Sunday, and when they went to bank the notes, they were not accepted as they were counterfeit.

The public is urged to report counterfeit notes to the police, and to also be aware of the look and feel of the notes that are being used.
