Gang linked to Sheppie clothing store robbery nabbed in Durban

The gang was handed over members of the Mayville Saps for arrest.

Four wanted men, linked to the robbery of a clothing store in Port Shepstone last week were arrested thanks to the quick response of a local security company.

“A group of men, armed with a firearm, robbed a store. One of the men went to the safe and took a number of cellphones and when customers entered the store, they fled. No shots were fired,” said police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge.

Fidelity Services Group’s Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU) received information from crime intelligence about the wanted men last Thursday at around 20:00.

The gang was handed over to members of the Mayville Saps for arrest.

The men had been traced to the Ridgeview Quarry in Cato Manor and the SIU team responded immediately.

“On arrival, four men were apprehended in a vehicle and several others fled from another vehicle and ran in different directions through a nearby settlement,” said Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group.

“Both vehicles were searched and cellphones, two firearms, one live 9mm round and copper coins were recovered and handed over to Mayville SAPS,” confirmed Hattingh.

“We commend our SIU members for their quick response and excellent teamwork in ensuring these suspects were caught.”

Captain Mpinge confirmed that a case of business robbery has been opened at SAPS Port Shepstone.
