Snake catcher travels miles to save black mambas

It's all in a day's work for the coast's Sarel van der Merwe.

Sarel van der Merwe, the South Coast’s legendary snake catcher, has been on a mission once again.

He travelled 128km (64km there and 64km back) this week to a house situated deep inland of Hibberdene to rescue a black mamba.
After moving a lot of items, he spotted him behind a generator.

Sarel has had a very busy summer season, most recently he rushed to a farm in Oribi Gorge to save a black mamba that went into the farm’s TLB.
It curled itself up by the hydraulic pipes.

The retrieved black mamba from the TLB in Oribi Gorge.

“I removed the top cover to catch him from the top and he quickly moved to the front of the engine. I then jumped down and ran to the front side of the TLB and removed him safely.

Need a snake removed, call Sarel on 082 6831604.
