National nursing council honours forensic nurse
Sister Dudu Ndlovu is a motivation to the young nurses at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s award-winning forensic nurse and operational manager for the Thuthuzela Care Centre, Sister Dudu Ndlovu, was recognised by the South African Nursing Council and awarded the Chairperson’s Discretion Award recently.

This is her 13th award, other awards that she has won include the Florence Nightingale Award as the best caring nurse in Kwazulu-Natal. Also, the Department of Public Service and Administration recognised her with two awards, Frontline Service Delivery Employee of the Year in South Africa and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The hospital’s nursing management was so proud of Ndlovu’s achievements that they organised a nurses’ guard of honour with Exco members joining in too.
The guard of honour march started at the main gate to the fifth floor where a formal celebration was held.
Hospital CEO, Gabriel Khawula congratulated Ndlovu, aligning her successes with the hospital’s seven pillars of clinical governance.

Khawula said the hospital brings excellence and quality in everything it does, also adding that the hospital will continue equipping all staff with necessary skills and knowledge for service delivery.
The Deputy Nursing Manager, Mandisa Maqutu, together with the Medical Manager, Dr Busi Dlamini congratulated Ndlovu on her achievement, saying that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication for one to be recognised with such an award.
The Assistant Nursing Manager, Matron Linda Manipersad said it is a privilege to work with a nurse of this calibre, who is so involved and takes her work to heart, even neglecting her family at times to ensure the community at large is empowered on gender-based violence and sexual assault.
“If it was not for the support from the hospital management and the staff, Sister Ndlovu would not be where she is,” said Manipersad.
Ndlovu said she appreciated all efforts in celebrating the award. “This award is for everyone,” added Ndlovu.
The young nurses were motivated that all is possible with dedication and passion.
To conclude the celebrations, the CEO handed over a Certificate of Excellence to Ndlovu, extending management’s gratitude to her for making Port Shepstone Regional Hospital proud, and putting it on the map together with Ugu District and KwaZulu-Natal.
