EFF leader donates solar panels to home for elderly

Julius Malema said many old people die unhappy because of how they are treated, but it is always better that when an old person dies, they die in a dignified manner.

The president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema celebrated the party’s 10th anniversary and Youth Day at Entokwezweni Village in Izingolweni last Friday.

Entokozweni is a home for 43 elderly people, some of whom are disabled and wheelchair-bound.
The organisation also teaches life skills to 40 children and provides them with a meal after school. The village also has a crèche.

Malema celebrated the EFF’s birthday by donating solar panels, R100 000 and blankets to them.
He said they decided to celebrate at the village because most youth do not appreciate old people and only love them when they receive their pensions.

“People tend to discriminate against old people who can no longer take care of themselves, they also have a tendency to hide disabled children and are ashamed of them. As the EFF we are not ashamed which is why we are here to celebrate with them.”

Malema said many old people die unhappy because of the way they are treated, but it is always better that when an old person dies, they die in a dignified manner.

“We should not neglect them, we need to love them.”

Managing director of Entokozweni Village, Beauty Mkhize said they have been operating for the past 26 years.
She took over after her husband died in 2008.

“I thank God that today I am still hear to see all this. I also thank those people who see the good we do and help us, without them, we are nothing including the EFF.”

Mkhize said having solar was only a dream but it has now become true.
Malema thanked MaMkhize for helping the elderly and teaching children life skills after formal school.

“Our youth has sunk into drug and alcohol abuse and one reason being they have nothing to do with their time, so someone like MaMkhize who dedicates her time to teaching children even after school is worthy of being celebrated.”

Before he left for a big celebration at the Durban University of Technology, he cut a cake to commemorate the EFF’s birthday.
