Avoid R102 between Umkomaas and Ilfracombe

A month ago, this section was closed by the Department of Transport due to road works.

After yesterday’s heavy rains (June 27), motorists noticed that the damaged section of road on the R102 between Umkomaas and Ilfracombe (near Umkomaas beach) has become more dangerous.

It appears as though more of the road has collapsed. Motorists are advised to be cautious when/if travelling here.

A month ago, this section was closed by the Department of Transport due to road works.

Although it was closed and signs were put up for a detour, some motorists are still using this road.

To those travelling on the beach road going towards the Umkomaas River mouth, please note that there are large water puddles on the road as well.
