Red Hat fun expected at Grannies’ Walk

Leading up to the much-loved Grannies’ Walk, which is set for July 5, a few regulars met up for a pre-event get-fit stroll at St Michaels Beach earlier this week.

One of the women, Marie Sheppard from the Red Hat Society (a lunch club for senior ladies) said that most of their members have been regular walkers at the Grannies’ Walk for the past 13-plus years and that there will be many red hats amongst the participants this year.

Rotarian Anne Thompson and fellow member of the Red Hat Society said: “One of the most cherished aspects of the Grannies’ Walk is the bond that forms among participants. Walking side by side, engaging in light conversation, and sharing in laughter creates a sense of community and support.”

The Rotarians from Hibiscus Coast are very excited about the Sardine Run happening right now and hope that Wednesday, July 5 will be filled with loads of sightings of whales, sardines and birds, which will be such a treat to watch from the trail.

Past President Brian Blumrick and event organiser said: “Precautions, such as providing trained guides, well-marked routes, and medical assistance if needed, are taken to ensure the well-being of all participants. Accessibility is also considered, with routes designed to accommodate various mobility levels, including the provision of wheelchairs or mobility aids for those who require them. By removing barriers, the event becomes inclusive and allows people of all abilities and ages to partake in the joys of the scenic coastline.”

The event takes place at St Michaels beach on Wednesday, July 5, starting at 08:00.
Senior Walkers may obtain their sponsors R100 per person or a sponsor will be obtained for you.

Breakfast will be served after the walk. Bring money for the raffle and coffee.
