Outreach project’s fun walk educates, raises funds
Guest speakers spoke on HIV/Aids, teenage pregnancy and substance abuse.
Sicelimpilo Project, an outreach programme based in Assisi, near Port Shepstone held a charity fun walk and run recently.
The walk was held to raise awareness on HIV/Aids, teenage pregnancy and substance abuse. Tickets were sold and the proceeds will go towards the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s retreat.
The walk started at Vusushaba sports ground and finished at Assisi Convent where participants lit candles in remembrance of lives lost to HIV/Aids.
Members of the community and children who are part of the project participated in the walk. Guest speakers were Sister Honorata Zuma, a nurse from Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and Sergeant Msawenkosi Eric Mkhungo from Mehlomnyama police station who spoke on HIV/Aids, teenage pregnancy, and substance abuse.
The coordinator, Sister Nonhlanhla Mbanjwa, also the managing director at the project said the day was a huge success.
“We would like to thank all the participants for the huge support,” said Mbanjwa.
