Food, Fun and Adventure: Stroll through Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve
Visitors can check out some indigenous birdlife while picnicking at one of the many idyllic spots found here.
Established in 1973, Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve is just 13 kilometres inland of the sea and has beautiful grassland, forest, and wetland habitats.

This variety provides shelter for around 300 bird species recorded in the reserve, among them grey crowned cranes, martial eagles, ground hornbills, secretary bird, lazy cisticola, lesser honeyguide and short-tailed pipit.

Vernon Crookes has a vast selection of hiking trails within the 2 189-hectare expanse, ranging from a gentle one-hour stroll through to the more advanced six-hour hikes.
