After protest action in Umzinto on Tuesday (August 1), Umdoni Municipality has since responded to the Sanathan community’s grievance of disrupted sanitation services, by ensuring the reinstatement of services with immediate effect.

The deputy mayor, Cllr Mthandeni Mbutho addressed the Sanathan residents where he conveyed the municipality’s apologies for the temporary inconvenience and reassured the community that there will be no interruption of these services going forward.

The protest action resulted in numerous roads being blocked, preventing residents from going in or out of the town.

“Sanitation is dignity and in collaboration with Ugu District Municipality, we will make certain that these residents are duly serviced,” he said.

Ongoing engagements will be scheduled between Umdoni, Ugu District and Department of Human Settlements for a long term solution.

Both Umdoni and Ugu District municipalities left the protest site after confirming the arrival of the service provider and resumption of services.
