Maskandi festival set to be bigger and better
Mayors of local municipalities said they will continue to support the festival as it boosts the economy of the South Coast and gives up and coming artists a platform to showcase their talent.
The upcoming Ugu Maskandi Festival is set to be even better this year as support from various municipalities in Ugu has been confirmed.
The annual festival set to take place on September 30 at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre was launched at Zuri Beach recently, and was attended by mayors and officials from Umdoni, Umuziwabantu and Ray Nkonyeni municipalities.
The mayors said they hope to see this festival grow and for it to be a top platform for local talent to develop.
Auditions for local artists who will be performing at the festival are continuing, with the second round of auditions held at Umuziwabatu last week.
Organiser, Ugu Broadcasting Services’ Melusi Khwela said he was very excited about this year’s edition and thanked all supporters and sponsors for making it possible.
“The build-up to this year’s festival has been nothing but amazing, especially because of the partnerships we have forged with our local municipalities. We thank Siyabonga Mkhungo, the ‘mastermind’ of the project for building all these relationships, to ensure that plans run smoothly,” said Khwela.
The festival is set to boost tourism to the South Coast as Maskhandi lovers, ‘Amabhinca’ from all over the nation have confirmed their attendance on social media.
Making a surprise appearance at the launch was Smangele and her son Chicken Mhlongo of KwaNjomane reality show and artists iThwasa leKhansela, to name a few.
