Hawks find unlicensed pistol under man’s pillow in Kokstad

A joint operation was conducted and police proceeded to the man's residence, where a search was conducted.

A 39-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm at Shayamoya area in Kokstad.

Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation, working with National Intervention Unit, K9 unit, Crime Intelligence and Public Order Police received information about a man who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the area.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said a joint operation was conducted and police proceeded to the man’s residence, where a search was conducted.

“During the search police found a 9mm pistol under the man’s pillow. He was placed under arrest and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm. He will appear in the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court.

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest and commended the members for the good work.
