Calls to fix busy provincial road
After the recent rains, the main road in Port Edward is now virtually impassable.
The Port Edward and Banners Rest Ratepayers Association (PEBRRPA) has handed a signed petition to Sipho Hlomuka, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the hope to get the Izingolweni provincial road repaired.
It urges that the petition be treated with a high degree of urgency and to provide the local Cost Centre with the budget and logistics on an emergency basis.
Dave Watson on behalf of PEBRRPA said their community’s lives and property are danger caused by the condition of the Port Edward/Izingolweni provincial road as it passes through Ward 1 of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
He said this matter has been raised many times with the local Cost Centre and at various public participation engagements.
After the recent rains, the road is now virtually impassable, and the threat to public safety and vehicular damage has worsened.
Watson said the problem is on blind rises and corners with traffic being forced to go contra flow.
“It’s like the Wild West now on this busy provincial road,” he said.
