Diwali show a colourful affair

A total of eight decorated vehicles were in this year's float procession.

Diwali is a time of joy, peace, and blessings.

The Port Shepstone Hindu Cultural Federation hosted their much awaited annual Diwali show last Saturday.

The Diwali show started about 15 years ago, with the tradition only being skipped during the Covid-19 pandemic.
A colourful and festive float procession began at the Dick King parking lot and proceeded through the streets of Port Shepstone, ending at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.

Enjoying the festivities are (from left) Debbie Cuppan, Michelle Iyaloo with baby Diyaan, Vanitha Naidoo, Queenie and Venu Soobramany and Cookie Naidu.

Kevin Govender, vice-chairman of the federation said the event was a great success.

The Hindu tradition was celebrated with a colourful float procession which began at the Dick King parking lot in Port Shepstone.

“We had a total of eight decorated vehicles in this year’s float procession. Next year is expected to be even better as it is hoped all 12 temples will take part,” he said.

Ready for the Diwali show are (from left) Kunal Girdhari, Shivaya Maharaj, Avni Maharaj and Adityu Jagersan with Sookrani Ramjuthan, who is the founder member of the Ram Narayan Mandir.

Family and friends unite for this year’s Diwali show.

Diwali will be celebrated this Sunday, November 12.
