Diwali, known to many as the festival of lights, will be celebrated by Hindus this Sunday, November 12.
This festival is known for symbolising the victory of good over evil or light over darkness. The South Coast Herald – Mid South Coast Edition wishes all those celebrating a joyous and blessed day.
Local poet Ekta Somera extends her Diwali wishes to all Hindus with a poem:
There are rangolis
in the sky
fire and light dance
in celebration
of a great return –
flickering flames
of clay lamps in a row
welcome a goddess
into our homes
The different tales
our grandparents told
taught us the significance
of a spiritual victory –
that light prevails over darkness
on the night known as
Diwali or Deepavali
