South Africans will be supporting World Aids Day this Friday, December 1.
The day serves as a reminder of the global effort to raise awareness and extend support to those grappling with the challenges of HIV/Aids.
World Aids Day is also hugely important for hospices everywhere as they offer palliative nursing care to not just cancer patients but also those suffering with tuberculosis and HIV/Aids.
“We have walked the road with thousands of HIV/Aids patients during our 39 years of existence,” said Sr Sue van Rijsbergen, nursing manager of Umkomaas’s Khanya Hospice.
“We know that, throughout this time, health authorities and pharmaceutical companies have helped win the battle against Aids and we are very thankful for all the help.”
