Sassa brings services to the people
Sassa KZN's Regional Executive Manager, Thamo Mzobe urged young mothers to use their grant money for their children.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) visited the rural area of KwaNdelu in Umzumbe during a recent roadshow.
The reason for the visit was to bring its services to the people, especially the area of KwaNdelu which is very far from towns, and can hardly access such services.
Sassa KZN’s Regional Executive Manager, Thamo Mzobe said they decided to visit at this particular time because families are together and it is easier to help them all.
Also part of the roadshow were the Department of Home Affairs, IEC, Saps, Department of Social Development and Department of Health.
Mzobe said it was important for them to come to this area during this period as scammers also operate, so therefore it was important to help people to sort our their pension and grant cards.
Among other services, the roadshow also aimed to help people in the area to start up businesses.
Inkosi Sifiso Shinga said 24 sewing machines were donated to them by a business but the challenge is that they need training.
Mzobe said that it will now be their duty to find the relevant department to help with the training.
She also urged young mothers to use their grant money for their children.
“Since it’s holidays it’s time for grandmothers to relax, young mothers should look after their own children and use the grant money wisely.”
She also mentioned that if ever they find that a grandmother lives with her grandchildren but the mother is collecting the grant, they will block the money because it should be given to the person who lives with the children.
