50 years and still going strong

Len and Heather Greyling, an inspirational couple from Shelly Beach, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Friday.
Gold represents wisdom, prosperity and strength, making it a fitting tribute to a marriage that has lasted for half a century.

They met in Bulawayo through mutual friends – way back – and on January 5 in 1974, officially embarked on their journey as husband and wife.

Later that year they moved to the South Coast where they put down their roots and started a family.
Tanya was born on July 16 in 1975 and then two years later, Taneal, also born on July 16.
Their daughters have learnt so much from the love their parents share.

Len and Heather created a home filled with warmth, laughter, great music and amazing memories, including camping trips to the Transkei.
When asking Heather what her happiest memory was and advice for staying together, she said it was the birth of her girls and growing old with Len, plus perseverance.

Len echoed these thoughts, adding that relationships are about give and take and ‘work it out’.
Their grandchildren – Savanna, Kai and Mason – have added to their joy, undoubtedly.

“Half a century of ups and downs but 50 years later and they still put toothpaste on each other’s toothbrushes and sit watching TV together holding hands, that’s love” says Tanya.

“My dad has always been a bit of a romantic – who doesn’t love romance? – and my mom is patient and has the most amazing, giving heart. I definitely think that is why their love has stood the test of time,” says Taneal.
