Schools to close early due to bad weather

The Department of Education in KZN has directed principals to send teachers and learners home by 13:00.

The Department of Education (DOE in KZN has given a directive to all school principals for the early release of learners and teachers due to severe weather warnings issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS).

The DOE provincial head, Nkosinathi Ngcobo said  KZN has been experiencing various challenges in recent weeks emanating from flooding, and many communities have been seriously affected, and some lost family members.

“Schools have been no exception in this regard. According to the SAWS, KZN is likely to experience heavy rainfall this afternoon (January 17). As such, all principals are directed to release learners by 13:00,” said Ngcobo.

He said in the same vein, all responsibility managers must release staff by 13:00 this afternoon.
