Power restoration hindered after storms

After storms hit the province last weekend and damaged electrical infrastructure and roads, Eskom KZN has announced that its restoration efforts have been hampered after more storm damage which intensified repairs to electrical infrastructure.
Eskom KZN’s general manager, Agnes Mlambo stated on Monday this week that the power utility has intensified efforts to restore electricity supplies to more areas impacted by the recurring heavy rains across the province. This has been especially challenging because of the impact of the devastation on roads, bridges, and other access infrastructure.
Mlambo said areas which have been severely impacted on the South Coast are Harding, Hibberdene and Park Rynie.
“Multi-disciplinary teams are currently on the ground managing restoration efforts. We have deployed technicians to prioritise the approximately 3 000 reports of loss of supply. We appeal for patience from our customers as restoration may take longer than usual due to access challenges. We urge affected customers to treat all electrical installations as live during this time,” adds Mlambo.

Meanwhile, some residents in Marburg are angry as electricity was restored in some areas last Sunday, while others are still without power since last Saturday.
Ward 17 councillor, Ajith Rajaram said he has reported the matter to Eskom and was told that they were short-staffed, but would be making their way to Marburg on Tuesday morning this week, but to no avail.
The residents said the hot weather is not helping as food is getting spoilt quickly as they have had no power for several days.
Rajaram said the situation is frustrating as most of the affected residents are pensioners who have just bought their monthly groceries, which they now have to throw out.
He said he understands that other areas are inaccessible, however, in his ward the roads are fine.
