New film role for actor

Gamalakhe hip-hop sensation, actor and MC, Siphesihle ‘Why Not’ Cele has earned himself a gig with Nubiana Films new release, Amathambo.

The film is written, directed and produced by KZN’s Sabelo Ndlovu and Busani Mbili.

The film seeks to explore family traumas and reconciliation. It tells the story of a family struggling to find healing and acceptance, as they look back at their dark past.

Cele’s role is that of a troubled young man, Nqoba. “My role is of a son who is arrested for the murder of his father, whom he never killed. Nqoba only helped his older brother cover up the murder. After spending 10 years behind bars, he is finally eligible for parole, but he must first face his resentful mother who must sign his parole documents,” Cele explained.

However, Cele said he has more exciting news for his fans as he is about to release his new EP, Gamalakhe.

“Two singles on the EP which I believe are going to make waves are ‘Ngfuna ukukbamba’ and ‘OMama’. These are just two of many songs as I worked on a lot of music last year,” Cele added.

His music inspiration comes from different people, things and situations, depending on what’s going on around him and what is happening in his life.

Cele said his biggest highlight was an opportunity on Uzalo on SABC, where he played the role of a gay man, Jojo.
“This was my first major TV role and it was the biggest show at the time. I also won the KwaZulu-Natal Young Achiever Award 2018 in the theatre and drama category,” he said.

Cele encourages the youth of the South Coast never to miss an opportunity.

“If you believe you are an artist, go to school, study, attend workshops and make sure each day you do something that contributes towards enhancing your skills. Also, remember to be disciplined as it’s more important than talent. Disciplined artists get more work than talented artists who lack discipline, “he concluded.
