Join SA Legion as a member
Next month's guest speaker is Kevin Woods, author of 'In the Shadow of Mugabe's Gallows'.
The SA Legion’s Lower South Coast branch held its monthly meeting at the Umtentweni Bowling Club recently.
The Legion services the needs of ex-servicemen and their families and were possible, those in need.
It’s a non-profit organisation and not political, religious, gender or race-based and is open to all arms of the forces, whether one actively served or not.
At present, numbers are dwindling, thus the meeting to recruit more members to join.
Guest speaker Dr Peter Munns spoke about his book the ‘South African Legion from 1921 to 2005’ that marked the 85th anniversary of the Legion. The branch is under new leadership, with an emphasis on its motto which says ‘Not for ourselves but for others’.
Next month’s guest speaker is Kevin Woods, author of ‘In the Shadow of Mugabe’s Gallows’.
“Kevin Woods was sentenced to death in Zimbabwe and jailed for 20 years by Robert Mugabe. For more than five years of his detention he was held in the shadow of Mugabe’s gallows, cut off from the world, naked and in solitary confinement,” said Legion chairman Fred Nathras.
He added that this will be an interesting meeting and should attract many. The meeting will be on June 1 at a venue yet to be confirmed.
