Local security companies, members of community police forums and Saps are on high alert following the announcement from the Constitutional Court that former president Jacob Zuma will not be eligible to take part in next week’s elections.

Zuma is now the leader and face of the MK party after replacing the founder and owner, Jabulani Khumalo.

The Constitutional Court found Zuma’s 15-month jail sentence for contempt of court in 2021 disqualified him from standing in the May 29 election.

As a result, and considering the Zuma-related rioting and looting that took place nearly three years (following Zuma’s jailing), a call for vigilance has gone out, in the (hopefully not) event there is something similar.

Messages from Palm Beach CPF and AfriForum South Coast have circulated today (May 20). 

It reads: “We request that you prepare and focus on action plans to cover all possible scenarios. Please ensure that all neighborhood watches are ready and that all bases are covered. It is crucial to be vigilant and respond quickly to any situations to ensure the safety of our communities. We encourage you to work together with local CPFs, security companies, and the Saps to form a united front and maintain the safety and stability of our communities. Thank you for your cooperation and dedication.”
